Taste of Belgium Austin Landing is set to close its doors Sunday after being open less than six months.

The restaurant, which opened in July at 10267 Penny Lane in Miami Twp., was the second Taste of Belgium bistro to open in the Dayton market following the opening of its established Beavercreek bistro, according to a statement by the company.

“Closing our Austin Landing location was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we needed to make to ensure the survival of our business as a whole,” said Taste of Belgium founder Jean-Francois Flechet in the statement. “While we originally chose this site for its promise as a vibrant community hub, shifting dynamics have made it challenging to meet our goals. Despite our efforts, we were unable to generate the momentum needed to thrive in this location.”

The Austin Landing bistro will be open to serve brunch 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Sunday.

Flechet said Taste of Belgium is “truly grateful” for those who visited and supported its Austin Landing location. He said it will continue to serve customers at its Beavercreek bistro.

“We appreciate the dedication of our Taste of Belgium team members,” he said. “We realize we are in the midst of the holidays, and we are doing everything we can for them.”

Flechet said that included “actively working” to place as many employees as possible in positions in Beavercreek.

“For those team members who are not able to secure future roles at the Beavercreek bistro, the company is providing Visa gift cards commensurate with their average weekly hours worked,” he said.

Taste of Belgium is best known for its waffles and brunch, but they also have a dinner menu, specialty cocktails and an extensive beer list with Belgian brews. The restaurant fuses Belgian and American cuisines with locally sourced ingredients.

The restaurant first started in 2007 at Cincinnati’s Findlay Market where Flechet started making traditional Liège-style waffles with a 120-pound cast-iron waffle maker from Belgium.
